Vino Con Brio Estate Pinot Grigio, Lodi, 2008
|
Pinot Grigio is a white wine grape thought to be a mutant clone of the Pinot Noir grape. The word "Pinot", which means "pinecone" in French, could have been given to it because the grapes grow in small pinecone shaped, tight clusters. It normally has a unique grayish fruit, accounting for its name ("grigio" meaning "gray" in Italian) but the grape can have a brownish pink to nearly black appearance. It is a great source of entertainment for us during harvest, as the token "new guy (or girl)" freaks out, thinking the pickers harvested a red grape instead of a white.
Our Pinot Grigio grows on the Amorosa Vineyard and always exhibits great structure and aromatics. You cannot accuse this Pinot Grigio of being too watery, or too tart like some of the other Pinot Grigios on the market. This extremely versatile wine can easily stand alone but also makes a good partner to foods such as spicy sausages, mild Chinese dishes, roast or fried chicken, seafood, and pasta with tarragon.

By avoiding malolactic fermentation and using cold storage, we further enhanced the fruit profile of the wine. |
